Abstract	The impact of the PSO young professional programme was examined. It was found that after their return in the Netherlands most of the young professionals had a desire to find a job in the development sector. Most of them also succeeded in this ambition. The type of working experience acquired while abroad had a positive impact on their current work, whether in the Dutch development sector or not. Most of the participants continued to be interested in matters of international development. The expectations of the participants before being send out agreed well with the objectives of the young professional programme.
