SamenvattingThis bulletin describes how KIT Tropenmuseum works with partner museums in the South. The museum, originally established to display art, culture and products from the Dutch colonies, shifted its focus to more socio-economic development issues in developing countries three decades ago. Today, it attempts to reflect critically on that colonial and post-colonial history. The international situation in which the museum operates is described and its views and policies are outlined. It has contributed to the introduction of Object ID in a number of museums in different countries, conducted training in collection management and conservation policies, and organized joint exhibition projects. Lessons are drawn as to the significance and sensitivities of partnerships with museums and institutions in the South.
