SamenvattingReciprocity in North-South cooperation is gradually gaining importance. Particularly with respect to the promotion of sustainable development, countries in the North and South have started to recognise that they can and should contribute to each other’s development process and learn from each other. In 1994, the Dutch government signed Sustainable Development Agreements with Benin, Bhutan and Costa Rica. These agreements are based on reciprocity, equality and participation and create a unique platform to learn more about reciprocity and how it can be achieved. More than 200 reciprocal projects have been implemented since 1994. Finding practical ways to implement reciprocity remains a challenge.
