SamenvattingIn recent years the “performance based financing” (PBF) approach has received increasing attention. However, benefits of PBF are still inconclusive with suggestions that it is not sustainable, it will not have a pro-poor effect, and it may create perverse incentives. This study shows that PBF is a promising approach, but more research will be necessary to examine whether it is indeed the most effective approach for delivery of improved health services.
