SamenvattingThe present work will discuss the effect of gendered power relations and sexuality in the vulnerability to HIV infection among Mexican women in rural areas and indigenous populations. In order to provide a framework to guide the discussion, I will discuss the utility of current vulnerability frameworks in the understanding of the AIDS epidemic. Then I will adapt one particular model drawing on the international literature on vulnerability, gender and development. With the resulting framework I will explore the gendered vulnerabilities to HIV among women in rural areas and indigenous communities in Mexico. A brief discussion will follow each main chapter. Finally I will conclude with recommendations to the Health Ministry of Mexico based on the study findings.
